Doctor Who-Remembrance of the Daleks, Enhanced Parts One and Four [Fanedit]

Rembrance of the Daleks Ultimate Edition

I was browsing Youtube and came across these two videos that attempt to touch up the beginning and end of Remembrance of the Daleks with new effects

I thought it would be fun to integrate both videos into their respective parts of the serial to further enhance the viewing experience

The Sarah Jane Adventures: Death of The Doctor [Fanedit]

Death of the Doctor

As plans are set in motion…plans will go awry. There is no better representation of that than the real life tragedy of Elizabeth Sladen and the fateful impact it made on the Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who as a whole.

Never again would we have Sarah Jane interact with the other Doctors beyond Matt Smith, we would’nt see the final reckoning with The Trickster, and we wouldn’t see Russel T Davies finally cast some light on the fate of one of The Doctor’s most valiant of companions…for me, perhaps THE companion…Dorothy ‘Ace’ McShane…or ‘Dorothy Something” if we go by Sarah’s description.

The closest we got to finding out just where Ace had gone to was a line of dialogue in “The Death of The Doctor”, the second and final crossover between Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures, which also reunited The Doctor with Jo Grant, played by the marvellous Katy Manning, who’s remarkable spark and energy made her a prime candidate to have potentially taken over from Sladen if the show runners had considered replacing her in light of her death.

Ace has had many resolutions in expanded media, from the original plans for her in series 27 (which were realised further in Big Finish audios) to her fatal encounter with the Lobri in the pages of Doctor Who Magazine, to her bitter falling out with The Doctor in the New Adventures range…Ace and The Seventh Doctor have had their share of rifts and reconciliations.

So it was a very pleasant surprise the past week or so to have seen a simple  announcement trailer for the blu-ray release of series 26, the last for Sophie, Sylvester and the original series, which gave what is arguably the final say on where Ace has been, as well as honouring the reference made in Sarah Jane Adventures, thus in some small way keeping Sladen’s spirit alive as well as the desires of the production team behind SJA, who had plans to feature Ace in the series.

And so, in our small way, we here at Zaredit have decided to finally give SJA fans a glimpse into what that unrealised potential might have resembled, and have inserted footage from the series 26 trailer here, making sure to avoid the promotional aspects of the footage of course.

As well as that, I’ve stitched together both parts of the serial to make one big 40 minute adventure, carefully avoiding the production and directors credits for both instalments.

I know I tackled this before, long before this creative opportunity arose,  but my rips were  out-of-synch, suffice to say, things are much better now

Have a wicked time with this.

Doctor Who-Silver Nemesis [Fanedit]

SILVER NEMEIS FANEDIT

Another old score to settle, not just for the Seventh Doctor, Lady Pentforte and the Cybermen, but for me and this particular serial. This time there will be a reckoning.

I first attempted to tackle this serial in 2015 and naively thought I could cut out any and all mention of Pentforte and get through the whole thing in 15 minutes, but after some kind pointers given to me by a few friends, I realised that wasn’t going to fly. The goal of fanediting I now feel is you have to take the good with the bad and enhance it’s strengths a lot more. So here in this edit all the elements are present.

I have looked at other stabs at this edit (I would recommend Whoflix’s version), they all basically fuze all three parts of the serial into one cohesive half hour or 45 minute whole, and I thought to myself that if I were to tackle this story again, I ought to do things differently than them just to stand out a bit, so I decided to retain the traditional serialised format for the story, only it would be two instalments as opposed to three.

The jazz session and Sylvester and Sophie under attack serves as our pre-titles teaser for Episode One, I removed a lot of The Doctor and Ace talking about the Nemesis in the museum, removed them going to see the Queen, removed the method by which Pentforte and Richard travel back through time to make them more mysterious, removed the police guards entirely, and omitted the Doctor explaining villidium to Ace (that comes much later in the story), so by the time we get to part two, we’re only eleven minutes in tops. More changes to part two, now a part of the newly constructed episode one, removes the appearance of the skinheads

The cliffhanger of part one is the cliffhanger of the official part two, and forms the beginning of the pre-titles of my version of part two, and it’s at this point that the mix-up of footage goes back to part one, with the Doctor finally turning his full attention to Pentforte and the battle of wits with Fenric in the chess game. There is but one continuity glitch, in that one of Pentforte’s arrows is embedded in the front of the TARDIS doorway which disappears when The Doctor and Ace arrive at Pentforte’s study, but you can let that quickly slip from your mind, it’s not there long.

Pentforte and Richard hitch hiking is in there, but there is none of the comedy involved, nor an appearance from the american tourist.

To avoid crediting the skinheads and the tourist, I used the end credits of part one for both instalments
