Doctor Who: Ace Like Me [‘Audiobook’ Fan Script]

The latest in my series of ‘audio book’ scripts that you, my fellow Doctor Who fan, can use at your leisure at no extra cost or credit.

This story is set sometime after the Waters of Mars and before the events of the DWM comic strip adventure ‘Ground Zero’, it is also a very loose adapatation of the DWM Winter Special comic strip story ‘Plastic Millenium’ with a few surprise twists that will make you think twice about the character of Allyson Hammerson. Just what reduces her to repetition? And is she more to The Doctor than we think? Don’t expect answers, Doctor Who is bred for one thing and that’s mystery.

Doctor Who: The World Shapers [‘Audio Script’ Adaptation/Fanfic]

This month’s free ‘audio script’ spec release is an adaptation of Grant Morrison’s controversial epic “The World Shapers”, I’ve tried to stay as faithful to the original storyline as possible, while altering much of the dialogue, adding some additional elements, extending scenes, and creating a whole new ending, based off an Eighth Doctor comic strip adventure, complete with a ‘surprise’ guest star (which is bound to ‘age well’, rofl)

Doctor Who-Can You Hear Me? Excerpt [Script Fanedit]

INT. TARDIS – DAY

GRAHAM O’BRIEN

— I worry.

(Beat)

About getting sick again. About the cancer recurring.

(Beat)

I don’t know who to say that to. So I thought I’d said it to you.

(Beat)

Seeing as you’re a Doctor. (Beat)

Once you have it, it’s with you all the time. Not quite a shadow.

I mean, my check-ups are all fine. But it made me think.

(Beat)

I thought I should talk about it. Cos, those nightmares, made me realise, that fear’s still there..

The Doctor nods. Beat. She walks towards Graham-she reaches for both his hands and places them in her own-she smiles

CUT TO:

THE DOCTOR

I should say a reassuring thing now, shouldn’t I? About life, maybe just a little about death. Does life sound like just the thing for you?

GRAHAM O’BRIEN

Yeah. Probably.

THE DOCTOR

Thought so

 (Beat)

They say the fear of the unknown is a lot worse than when it actually arrives-when it does-no, if it does-you won’t give in to it, you’ll stare it dead in the eye, the face of death itself, and you’ll say ‘you come and find me, and you drag me away, but I won’t contribute’-because you’re strong Graham, the strongest man I know, I meant every word of that-the fear is there, but here you are too. Standing still while the tide threatens to wash over you, refusing to be pulled in. Promise me you never will.

GRAHAM O’BRIEN

I can try Doc

(Beat)

The Doctor leans forward and gives Graham a soft kiss on the cheek

THE DOCTOR

       Glad you heard me

GRAHAM O’BRIEN

OK

(she moves away)

(whisper)

I love you too Doc

Also added a couple of extra moments of dialogue, have fun looking out for them

Doctor Who-Invisible Touch [Screenplay]

Zygon

This is a script I was commissioner to write by someone on FF.Net for his own Doctor Who fanfilm series. I’ve yet to hear back from this person and don’t even know if he filmed the episodes, so for now I’ve decided to put up the script so you at least know where it came from if you see it on Youtube eventually. Feel free to adapt it for your own fanfilm if need be.

“INVISIBLE TOUCH”
WRITTEN BY DAVID BLYTH

EXT-STREET-DAY

[THE DOCTOR and his companion JESS SMITH are standing outside a building, keeping their gaze transfixed on the sky. The Doctor turns to his companion]

THE DOCTOR
Is this how it starts?

JESS:
What do you mean?

THE DOCTOR:
The day. It’s so regular. Usually by this time of the morning I’m off dozing the flames off of burnt stars, or clearing the throat of a singing cloud. Everything is normally an event…but this…

JESS:
Not every day is one step out of the ordinary Doctor
THE DOCTOR:
I suppose not, but it must bore you

JESS:
Well that’s why I’ve got you around don’t I?

THE DOCTOR:
And what if you didn’t have me?

JESS:
I’ve thought about that in advance

THE DOCTOR:
Oh have you now?

JESS:
I was thinking of maybe becoming an investigator when I’m older

THE DOCTOR:
Paranormal investigation I hope.

JESS:
I think I’ll settle for the basic cases. I’d like to keep the life we have together exclusive to this portion of my life

[The Doctor hears a beeping sound, he takes out what appears to be a small device]

THE DOCTOR:
Ah, good timing

JESS:
What’s going on?

THE DOCTOR:
Old friend of mine wants me to check in on something for them, come along, and do me a favour when we get there

JESS:
What’s that?

THE DOCTOR:
Don’t look down

[The pair head towards the park]

OPENING TITLES
EXT-PARK-DAY

JESS:
What are we doing here then?

THE DOCTOR:
This is the center of a great web me and my friend set up decades ago

JESS:
And what’s contained in the web?

THE DOCTOR
Souls. And they’re not trapped, they’re lying in wait

JESS:
Lying in wait for what?

THE DOCTOR:
The twin flames of Imax Five, one of the most hospitable races in the universe. They can carry up to two souls per body, the original being the one that brings balance to the ones they adopt.

JESS:
So these souls waiting to be adopted…they come from Earth? Is this web where we go when we die?

THE DOCTOR:
Not exactly, this web preserves all the souls of humanity that were taken as a result of forces engaged in temporal incursions…souls that were never meant to die so early on in their lifetimes.

[Jess looks upset]

THE DOCTOR
Anything the matter?

JESS:
Just thinking about life back home. All the upheaval…I suppose you’re going to tell me all of that is meant to be too?

[The Doctor reacts to a small rumbling noise emitting all around them]

THE DOCTOR:
Jessica, remember what I told you

[Jess tilts her head up]
JESS:
Yeah, yeah, don’t look down, but I can’t help feeling down you know?

THE DOCTOR:
No, no, you must resist this train of thought

JESS:
Why not? I don’t want anything triggering a rejection of the Good Friday accords, imagine if my country was seen as an international threat again…

THE DOCTOR:
Jess, I don’t like giving orders, but you’re really pushing me right now
[There is a loud thunderous crash, similar to that of a lightning strike]

THE DOCTOR:
Jess, please
[Jess turns her back to him, rubbing her eyes gently, then stiffens like a rock before turning back around, her eyes glazed over, trance-like]

JESS:
Jess is not here right now

THE DOCTOR:
To whom am I speaking?

JESS:
You may address me as Rena Maxwell

THE DOCTOR:
I warned her not to look down…as in feel down, I should have been specific about the nature of the souls…they all died feeling negative impulses, things left unfinished, unsaid. Anyone within the surrounding area feeling as badly as Jess did will have become perfect prey for those souls strong enough to reach forth from the Imax web and possess them.

[The Doctor approaches the possessed Jess]

THE DOCTOR
I demand you relinquish control of my companion at once

RENA:
On one condition…I request an audience with Quentin Cade, my partner

THE DOCTOR:
No, I will not permit others to enter this location. This place is protected

RENA:
Then you shall be his host

THE DOCTOR:
And if I refuse?

RENA:
I will take your companion with me in my walk across this world, and you shall never set eyes upon us again

[THE DOCTOR stands before the possessed companion JESS as RENA MAXWELL demands he surrender his own mind to her partner]

RENA MAXWELL:
You are wasting time

THE DOCTOR:
I never waste a moment through time as I walk through it

RENA:
Cease delaying and provide my partner with a vessel

THE DOCTOR:
I can only do that by giving in my own insecurities, my own fears

RENA:
Yes, I can read your companion’s mind…she knows things about you, that you have such hidden fears, you don’t show it, but there is pain in your voice…so much you have suppressed

THE DOCTOR:
No, I will not give in

JESS/RENA:
You must otherwise your companion shall never be with you again…it is the thought of that which drives you to despair now

[The Doctor shakes violently, he puts his hands to his head, he lets out a deafening roar of defiance, and then stiffens. He is ridged, just as Jess was before possession]
JESS/RENA:
Is it done?

[The Doctor’s eyes snap open. He has become possessed by Rena’s partner QUENTIN]
THE DOCTOR/QUENTIN

Rena

RENA
Quentin, it’s you

THE DOCTOR/QUENTIN
This man’s mind resists my own, is this…natural?

JESS/RENA:
It is expected of reluctant hosts, yes.

QUENTIN
What is it you wish of me?

JESS/RENA:
I need to be assured. I am…scared.

THE DOCTOR/QUENTIN
Why? We will have new life on IMAX Five

JESS/RENA:
I know, but it will mean leaving this place behind…friends I’ve known, family I’ve loved

[Jess swiftly takes over again]

JESS
And what of me? I have family too, my sister, friends in my country…I worry for them too

[Jess and Rena argue. Two minds. One body]

JESS/RENA
How are you resisting me?

JESS/RENA
Remember what The Doctor said…don’t look down, don’t feel down. Possession is a two way circus where this is concerned

JESS/RENA
Mind your own business

JESS/RENA
My body, my business
[The Doctor briefly reasserts control]

THE DOCTOR/QUENTIN
That’s it Jess, channel your energies

JESS/RENA
Maybe it’s time you started looking up, see the positives that can come from seeking out new opportunities. Maybe once you adjust, you can visit your family and let them know you’re alright

JESS/RENA
How?

THE DOCTOR/QUENTIN
In dreams. You can bestow upon them an invisible touch…a touch that brings with it hope and clarity. Maybe if you give them instructions to come here, a map fresh in their minds. The web will remember their presence, their connection, and it will gather their souls when the time has come to peacefully loosen from the grip of this mortal coil

JESS/RENA
I have your word on it?

JESS/RENA
Of course, a time lord’s word is his bond.

JESS/RENA
My sins won’t find punishment in due time will they?

THE DOCTOR/QUENTIN
Everyone forgives in time

JESS/RENA
Very well, I shall wait. WE shall wait.

THE DOCTOR/QUENTIN
Yes, we will

[Both The Doctor and Jess shake slightly, then gradually regain their bearings]

THE DOCTOR
Jess, are you ok?

JESS
I feel fine now Doctor, Rena is gone

THE DOCTOR
She and Quentin have returned to the web…come on, it’s best we left

JESS
I’m sorry if I let everything cave in on me earlier Doc

THE DOCTOR
It’s fine…this is how you end the day, with a lesson learned in your life

JESS
Won’t your friend be curious about what happened today?

THE DOCTOR
I think it’s best we leave this little altercation out of my report to her…she doesn’t like ghost stories

JESS
Not a believer in spirits is she? She probably thinks it’s all alien

THE DOCTOR
You’d be surprised at what Sarah Jane Smith believes in

JESS
So long as she believes in you the way I do, we’re fine

PENNY:

Hey

GORDON:

Hi

PENNY:

Listen, don’t let Roxanne get to you

GORDON:

They’re right though aren’t they?

PENNY:

You want an honest opinion?

GORDON:

Everyone seems to have one of me…none of it is particularly flattering

PENNY:

It seems you’re coming up with policies that you’re not sure you believe in, you just want them to be alternatives to whatever Roxanne’s put together

GORDON:

Great, so I’m no man with a plan, even in your eyes…

PENNY:

I’m just used to your plans coming apart

GORDON:

All my plans to ever ask you out maybe, but this was different Pen, it was so much different

PENNY:

All plans need to have commitment and passion put behind it, you had the passion, but just not the commitment

GORDON:

You realize this is stuff Roxanne’s already said to me, only said much nicer, which is surprising coming from you

PENNY:

Gordon,  it’s better hearing this from someone who likes you than someone who doesn’t.

GORDON:

You like me all of a sudden?

PENNY:

You think all of those efforts to force your romantic notions on me make me like you less? They annoy me, but they don’t change the way I feel about you

(she clutches his hand tightly)

PENNY:

I may not reciprocate your feelings, but I understand them, and I tolerate them, and through it all, you’ve never gotten mad at my rejections or stopped caring about me, that leaves an impression on a girl more.

GORDON:

Thanks Penny

(They hug. Penny seems to enjoy the hug a bit too much, Gordon silently mouths “I love you”, she doesn’t hear it)

Suddenly, Penny’s beeper goes off)

PENNY:

It’s the hospital, I gotta go.

Fan Script Samples#2-Inspector Gadget

In a change to the current plan, I now intend to make this fan script the basis for a short form “pitch pilot” for a potential fan-made Inspector Gadget film

This scene occurs shortly after John Smith (Gadget) is injured when attempting to thwart a robbery

BRENDA:

You’re Quimby, the police chief?

CHIEF QUIMBY:

Doctor Bradford, I am so sorry to hear about your father, he was a fine man, and an essential asset to this city’s…

BRENDA:

…Gadgetini programme, I know, I know. My dad’s murder isn’t important right now, the condition of your operative is.

QUIMBY:

How is he Doctor?

BRENDA:

Stable, but he’s lost a lot of function in most of his body. With your permission, I would like to try my hand at some experimental surgery utilizing the best resources of the Bradtech facilities

QUIMBY:

Wait a minute, you want to dummy run the Gadgetini programme on a live  human being?

BRENDA:

That HAS always been the intention behind the programme, to install bionics into working human tissue, and it’d be no ‘dummy run’ , this procedure would result in permanent results.

QUIMBY:

I know all about you and your father’s frankenstiening Doctor….

BRENDA:

Oh, I hate that word

QUIMBY:

The city may be bleeding every budget in funding it, but not everyone approves. I don’t want to count myself among them, but this is a man’s life you’re gambling with.

BRENDA:

Your operative tried to save my father’s life last night Chief, this is the least I can do for him. You may call it ‘frankenstiening’,  I call it a helping hand…and a leg, and a limb…

QUIMBY:

Any other good news you’d like to share?

BRENDA:

There was significant damage done to the central parts of the brain, we’ve tried minimizing the extent of the injury’s impact , but I’m afraid even with the repairs, he may have a lack of…discipline in regard to cohesive thought.

QUIMBY:

You trying to tell me my best cop is retarded or something?

BRENDA:

Oh I hate that word also

(A sudden commotion soon interrupts their conversation, they turn around to find a YOUNG GIRL with BLONDE PIGTAILS and a RED AND WHITE shirt struggling to advance towards them, and being restrained by orderlies)

QUIMBY:

Who’s that?

BRENDA:

Mr. Smith’s niece. He talked about her often

(The niece resists attempts to calm her down, a doctor tries restraining her, she will have none of it)

MALE DOCTOR:

He’s in surgery young lady, you can’t see him

NIECE:

Let me go

(Quimby turns back to Brenda)

QUIMBY:

Let me deal with this, inform me of further progress

BRENDA:

Yes Chief

(He approaches  the girl)

QUIMBY:

You’re, John’s niece, right?

PENNY:

Penny. Penny Smith.

QUIMBY:

Listen Penny, your Uncle’s really sick, we’re trying to make him better, but this little fit of yours isn’t making anything better.

PENNY:

I should have went with him that night, me and B.R.A.I.N could have…

QUIMBY:

Brain?

PENNY:

Dog.  My dog. B.R.A.I.N is my dog. Totally.

FanScript Samples#1-Inspector Gadget

For the time being, I’m going to be focusing strictly on writing fan script treatments for movies I felt could have been improved upon. The first I aim to tackle is 1999’s INSPECTOR GADGET. I intend to use as many elements of the original movie as possible, but will also be utilising aspects of the 1980s animated series.

Here’s a sample of how my movie starts

The full script will be available to download from this blog in the future. Samples of this will continue to be uploaded as we progress.

INSPECTOR GADGET

Ext-BRADTECH LABS-NIGHT

(It is a clear crisp evening, we begin with the sight of a PALE MOON and PAN DOWN to a LEAN, TALL  SECURITY GUARD. He is twirling a night stick and humming a merry tune to himself (“I’ll Be Your Everything” by Youngtown)

Close to his right side is a BOOTH,  within which is a MUCH OLDER WOMAN (late 50s), talking over the phone. She becomes slightly irritated by the male’s singing)

WOMAN:

JOHN, pipe it down will you? I can’t hear the supervisor.

(The man, John, turns and walks over to the booth)

JOHN:

Don’t you mean, ‘I can’t hear myself THINK?’

WOMAN:

Oh real funny you sexist pig. No man tells me what to think

JOHN:

With the fee they currently pay you, are you quite sure about that?

(the woman resumes listening to the unheard voice on the phone. She nods as she understands something, then hangs up. She gives John an icy glare)

WOMAN:

You think you’re real funny don’t you?

JOHN:

This job’s made you far too uptight, it’s my civic duty to loosen you up

WOMAN:

That’s my  problem with you John, you’re always on duty.

(John resumes his whistling, the woman just shakes her head)
