Another Clean-Up

Removed my entries on Doctor Who-Series Ten Revisited as I will be remounting them soon with rips from the official DVD releases and not the TX versions.

Gone too is my umpteen drafts of The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith…now that the current version is listed on IFDB. The new draft will be made available to stream on Vimeo shortly.

Also missing is The Snowmen as I had an even better set of ideas for it as an edit. It’ll be back up before Christmas, I hope to have it released on FE.Org as a Christmas present, but we’ll see how they like it.

At the moment, I’m thinking of giving my Doctor Who edits a “uniform title” sequence, which would just be the old 2005-2009 titles with a shortened version of the theme borrowed from Whoflix.

Doctor Who-Return of Doctor Mysterio [Fanedit]

It’s been a while, but he’s back, and it’s “about time” for a new DW fanedit. This time I thought I’d tackle the most recent episode, the 2016 Christmas special. A lot had been cut out of my original edit of this, as I thought leaving  out much of how Grant acquired his powers would be better for the imagination, so all you get is the gist of it: He swallowed an alien gemstone, he met The Doctor when he was young, and that’s basically it.

But then I came up with a much better idea. This time we keep the high school flashbacl..indeed it’s now our first scene, we just lose the erection joke, and cut to Grant and the Doctor talking things over at Lucy’s apartment before Grant heads off into action as The Ghost…and there’s your titles!

The concept here is that The Doctor is here on business investigating Harmony Shoal and decided to drop in on his old friend Grant at the same time. He still asks Lucy who she is in the scene at Harmony Shoal but the impression I’m trying to convey is that this is just a formality. Right after Grant drops her off home, the Doc immediately returns there and talks to her.

Sliders-The Exodus [Fanedit]

exodus2sliders

The Exodus is the infamous two-parter of the 90s multiverse exploration series SLIDERS, a series that was frequently plagued by executive meddling, pointless cast changes, and ridiculous story lines. It holds a special place in my heart as it’s first two seasons are amongst the best speculative fiction I’ve ever seen and I do actually have some sort of soft spot for the third season even if it (and season five) are the worst.

The Exodus has a lot going against it…death of a fan favourite character in Professor ArtUro, gobbledegook science jargon, the characters all being incredibly self-centred and mean-spirited, a weird serial killer/coma victim subplot…there’s a lot to cut out or generally minimise, and evidently I haven’t been the only one who’s considered this. Apparently the Earth Prime online community tried their hand at the Exodus fanedit, I found it on Vimeo and it’s inspired me to do my own version.

I think they tried to be too ambitious with the edit, attempting to ignore some of the hokeier moments and, in what I feel was a missed oppertunity, cut out Quinn returning to his home Earth. This was a seminal moment for me and I thought one of the better moments of the two-parter, ruined all too quickly by Maggie’s ludicrous “allergy” to an Earth. In my version, Quinn and Maggie return from Quinn’s world with no problems and they decide that Earth is where the population of the doomed Pulsar Earth goes.

Arturo’s death is now re purposed in a way that gives him some dignity and underlines the triumph of the Sliders with a tragic setback…they have made it home at last, but feel compelled to return to their usual adventures in order to bring Rickman to justice.

Maggie’s husband is killed off-screen, as Rickman tells Maggie he was killed by the rioters.

The whole Rembrandt/Malcom subplot has been removed, they still meet and Rembrandt does still bond with him, but the whole drama with trying to get him on the list or whatnot is edited out.

I retained some of the cheesier elements because Sliders is pure 90s cheese and it would feel hollow without some of that being in there. It’s not really a very joyful story as it is.

How SPECTRE Should Have Ended

Back to editing at last. I do apologize for the lack of updates on this end folks…computer trouble plus working out what kind of edits to do can sometimes get the better of you

I’ve been working on touching up a minimally altered edit of Spectre, cheifly changing the opening of the film, removing some fairly cheesy moments here and there, as well as ending the film at a half-way decent spot which gives the core characters a chance to shine…in my ending, it’s M that deals the final blow to Spectre’s plans.

Doctor Who-The Time of the Doctor

Exciting times ahead for DW fans. Power of the Daleks may be getting an officially sanctioned animated adaptation, CLASS’s premiere is but a month away, and then there’s only a few weeks until the Christmas special. Before you know it, we’ll be well on our way to the moment we’ve all been prepared for, Moffat’s departure

But cast your minds back to 2013 when we were all prepared for another sudden departure, as Matt Smith boweed out of the TARDIS and made room for our current holder of the house…or box, or whatever.

Yes, from the vault of edits passed, I bring you my long overdue edit of Time of the Doctor.

I first dabbled in an edit of this not long after it’s 2013 transmission and with this version I made adjustments and improvements to the elements I changed. We don’t get any nudity/holographic clothes here, a lot of that was very easy to smooth over with the aid of the television soundtrack. Also gone is the whole of Clara’s interactions with her family as well as Eleven’s long-winded speech and phantom Amy. Here, The Doctor regenerates at the belltower and comes up the TARDIS steps as Capaldi.

A well prepared moment for us all.

There’s been a lot of discussion over what the best course of action to take with this particular film. My idea, in addition to trying to get through it as quickly as possible, was to try and make it more about Clark and his journey, while finding time to give some breathing room for Bruce only when the plot requires him to be there to advance the duel.  Ideally, I wouldn’t have it in there at all, but it makes for a pretty short movie, if you can still call it a “movie”, it was almost “DeAssified” in length actually.
So far, my current draft clocks in at 1 hour, 49 minutes.
Here’s the cut-list so far
-Film opens with Clark speaking to his father in the Arctic
-Kryptonite discovery moved to after the hearings and before Lex’s introduction
-“Devils come from the sky” monolouge cut
-Media montage of Superman’s deeds cut
-Both of Bruce’s nightmares have been cut
-Outside of giving Bruce back the flash drive, Diana does not appear for the rest of the movie. Hers is just a guest role
-“Granny’s Peach tea” sequence cut
-“Marrthhhaaa” lines cut. Bruce now relents as he flashes back to his parents.
-Martha rescue cut entirely
-Superman’s death cut. Doomsday is defeated when nuked. Man of Steel footage is used to show Clark being replenished by the sun.
-Diana viewing the Metahumans repurposed to Bruce viewing the Metahumans in addition to Diana’s photograph
-Clark speaks to his mother and rescues flooded villagers at the end.
