Smallville-Finale ”Finalized” [Fanedit]

Another stab at making a shorter version of the Smallville series finale. I’d previously done this with the aborted ”Circle” edit meshing up ”Homecoming” and ”Finale”, and it was up here for a time before FE.org’s Bionicbob pointed out a continuity error which necessitated a takedown…and then of course I lost the edit and the files in a crash so production of it was again stalled.

Fortunately, I happened to find my ”Finale” DVD rip still haunting an old save drive of mine so I thought I’d take out the old motor and see what I could do with just the ”Finale” material. Years of editing experience has given me the confidence to finally put this puppy together in a way that I hope is somewhat compelling and emotionally satisfying

SPOILERS FOR THE EDIT

The key omissions and changes to this particular edit are as follows:

-No possession of Oliver Queen by Darksied

-No flash forwards to Chole reading the comic book to her kid or the scenes at the Planet at the end

-Lois and Clark’s wedding isn’t ruined and delayed for seven years, and is pretty much the penultimate scene

-Lois does not board Airforce One.

-Tess does not erase Lex’s memories.

-Episode ends with Clark getting the suit and the pep talk from his fathers before zooming out of the Fortress

Clark saving the world from Apokolips at the end BEFORE he gets the suit is a trick you can only really pull off because of the artistic choices the actual people in charge made not to commit to showing Clark in the suit fully. You only get a red and blue blur in long distance. While you have to sort of suspend disbelief SLIGHTLY here, I think it’s something you don’t have to dwell too much on. It does the job for me.

Another continuity nitpick is Clark knows where to find Tess…sadly, I don’t have much to really cover exactly how he knows where to find Tess’ car, but with the planet already in orbit around the planet, you can just say he was on his way to the Watchtower before happening to stumble on Tess’ car.

I might redo this edit down ever so slightly the line as there’s something ‘off’ about Tom Welling’s utterance of ”And now the series finale of Smallville”, but for now, here’s what I have so far.

Superman-Dawn of Justice (Draft 1)

Superman Dawn of Justice

There’s been a lot of discussion over what the best course of action to take with this particular film. My idea, in addition to trying to get through it as quickly as possible, was to try and make it more about Clark and his journey, while finding time to give some breathing room for Bruce only when the plot requires him to be there to advance the duel.  Ideally, I wouldn’t have it in there at all, but it makes for a pretty short movie, if you can still call it a “movie”, it was almost “DeAssified” in length actually.
So far, my current draft clocks in at 1 hour, 49 minutes.
Here’s the cut-list so far
-Film opens with Clark speaking to his father in the Arctic
-Kryptonite discovery moved to after the hearings and before Lex’s introduction
-“Devils come from the sky” monolouge cut
-Media montage of Superman’s deeds cut
-Both of Bruce’s nightmares have been cut
-Outside of giving Bruce back the flash drive, Diana does not appear for the rest of the movie. Hers is just a guest role
-“Granny’s Peach tea” sequence cut
-“Marrthhhaaa” lines cut. Bruce now relents as he flashes back to his parents.
-Martha rescue cut entirely
-Superman’s death cut. Doomsday is defeated when nuked. Man of Steel footage is used to show Clark being replenished by the sun.
-Diana viewing the Metahumans repurposed to Bruce viewing the Metahumans in addition to Diana’s photograph
-Clark speaks to his mother and rescues flooded villagers at the end.

Superman-Dawn of Justice Sneek Peeks

Spent the last day or so editing the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman in the hopes of reining in some of it, try to make it more Clark’s movie for at least the first half an hour, before focusing on Bruce. Also I’ve minimised Diana’s role in events considerably.

Here are just a few samples of what to expect when I’m done
