I know what you’re thinking…”hang on a minute Zar, is’nt this episode five?”
In order of transmission, quite so, but this is fanediting and if I feel we ought to be moving up the steps on the ladder quicker, I don’t see the point in trying to slow us down.
Where does that leave ”Thin Ice” you may ask? Well, the honest heart of the matter is I did’nt see a hell of a lot wrong with that story…that, plus I kind of have a soft spot for it seeing as it was initially leaked out earlier than it was intended to air…not a particularly essential story, but one I was still incredibly excited to preview ahead of transmission time. Any time something comes from ”the future”, it makes being a fan as close to the reality of the television show they’re addicted to.
So warm memories of spending Saturday morning watching the ”leak”, the fact that it’s not a bad and rather pleasing little romp [once you get past the preachy SJW gunk], and wanting to get through the series quicker in a most unique manner got me thinking a bit about what to do with as minimal amount of ”Thin Ice” as possible, and I decided to use the final few minutes of it as the pre-titles teaser to this one, the result is a slightly longer than usual opener but I think it still works
As for the ”Knock, Knock” story arc…we see it advance just a little more here, as Bill finally moves in , and The Doctor gets to meet her gang of friends. We also get a little more of the mysterious creeking before we resume the rest of Jamie Matheson’s brilliant ”Oxygen” as normal, with one major omission at the end. In keeping with Jamie’s original script, The Doctor regains his eyesight and doesn’t go blind.
Is that it then? Have we ”seen” [or rather unseeen] the sightless Doc? Maybe…maybe not, depends on if a certain edit goes the way I want, but for now, I hear someone knocking twice at my door…might wait until next week before I answer.
