Doctor Who-Ressurection of the Daleks Alternative Episode Four [Fanedit]

dwrotdae4

Another short trip in the TARDIS, and to celebrate the long anticipated completion of the Classic Doctor Who Novelization range, we go back to the tail-end of Peter Davison’s era to experience the slaughterhouse that is Eric Saward’s Resurrection of the Daleks.  Saward had gone on record in the Ressurection DVD extras that he would perhaps tighten the bolts on this story were he to approach it again, and without JNT in his ear, he can put together something a bit more…how should I put it? Oh yes, tender. Tender’s a good word.

Tender is what I’m aiming for with this edit of the 22-minute version of the story, with two minutes cut from the story overall. Out goes any blatant scenes of Eric’s “original the character” Lytton getting up from being stunned by a Dalek blast and escaping (though I do leave in a shot that implies he’s still alive), out goes Davros having an attack of Movellan spunk in his wheelchair, and to truly show how tender we are, let’s keep Tegan on board the TARDIS at the end. Done, and all with tender loving care.

I’m using that word a lot today…must be because I got a compliment from my best friend.

Doctor Who: Battlefield-Alternative Part Four [Fanedit]

Due to ghosting issues with the footage, I don’t think I can write up an IFDB article for it, so I’m just leaving it here until I can somehow fix it and in case anyone is curious about seeing it.

Brig was supposed to die in this story but Arranovitch bottled it. And the conclusion pretty much suffers for it. I did a quick edit of part 4 specifically to honour the author’s original intentions, cutting out approx. 4 minutes of the story. I think it works (although there is no real explanation for why Arthur’s ship explodes in the cut, but if you’ve seen the story and you know Ace’s history with explosives you can put two and two together), I might do a longer edit using the special edition as well, just for people who are completists, and I might toggle with the ending some more just to give it more of a complete ending (my part 4 edit just ends with Sylv telling Bambera to lock Morgane and Mordread up)

SCENE 13, TAKE TWO

I first attempted this as a fanedit back in October 2018 with a TV rip, now that I have the official DVDs, the real fun can begin. Revisiting edits means you get the chance to sort out your editing choices and perhaps consider reinstating things you cut from the previous version.

-I’ve worked out how to omit all scenes with Grace fastening herself to the equipment while retaining Tim Shaw activating the DNA bombs, all that was required is a short quick cut omitting the reaction shots from the cast.

-I’ve decided to include Ryan’s youtube blog from the beginning of the episode, only now it’s been repurposed, it occurs after Tim Shaw teleports away, and Ryan’s bike ride is now observed by The Doctor.

-Episode does not end on the original cliffhanger (saving their predicament there for the pre-sting sequence of Ghost Monument), instead it ends just as The Doctor asks if Yazmin and Ryan can help her with locating the TARDIS.

Rebuilds of Ghost Monument and Rosa, and possibly one other, coming soon.

Doctor Who-The Night of The Doctor [Fanedit]

When circumstances, opinions and preferences force us to give certain passion projects up, one is left with the inevitable feeling we’ve left some work half-done. I’ve felt that way about Doctor Who series 11, opting to only edit a handful of episodes because I feel there’s not much creative avenues required for the rather unremarkable slew of stories, but then there’s the likes of Whoflix, who’d much rather not attempt edits of the Whitaker-not named-David era at all. At least if you want someone to feel you’re missed at work you could show up every now and then.

Ah, but we love Whoflix here at Zaredit, that guy has taught me a lot about perfecting editing and thinking more outside the box, so I’m fine with him letting the Doctor go and finishing all that is left to be salvaged from the ashes of his personal Pompei. As for us? C’mon Ace, we’ve got work to do.

Where was I? What was the subject we were on? Ah, yes, incompleteness, and that brings back around to Whoflix. When all is said and compiled, there may still be one gap in the man’s collection of edits, and that is the Night of the Doctor.

One might think there’s not much you can get out of a six minute short, and you’d be right. It’s hard to subtract even more from it…so why not instead ADD to it?

By adding “The Last Day” as a timey whimey prologue, you can build the escalation of events in the time war up a little more, giving us a taste of just how merciless the Daleks are en route to the Eighth Doctor’s fateful meeting with Cass aboard her spaceship.

How to extend it past even the original running time? Simply rely on the creativity of others and steal from the best! (just remember to give them the proper credit for being immensely more talented than you)

The works of Youtuber Oliver Comet provided the Doctor’s transformation and gradual acceptance of his War Doctor form, Comet even snuck in a brief cameo from Dalton as Rassilon. It’s enough to genuinely frustrate a fellow at the squandered opportunities they had with the realisation of the late John Hurt’s character. If only Big Finish could have spent some money on nabbing Dalton for some stories before Hurt passed on…and we never did get to see a Molloy/Hurt face off at the gates of Elysium either. Perhaps the Nightmare Child still awaits for McGann?

Due to Comet putting his edit together in 4/3, the DVD rips had to be set to that ratio to match, which means FE.org aren’t likely to take it when I write up the IFDB article, which means this is the “renegade edition”, the official version which will listed on the IFDB will not include Comet’s footage.

Not 100% a concrete project yet, as I’m still in the process of watching both movies to see what fits and what doesn’t, but I’ve tested out a few concepts on this one and have a rough idea of what I want to do with it.

Star Wars: The Ford Awakens [Fanedit]

FORD AWAKENS

I’ve worked out a way of having Han live throughout the entire movie, and he accompanies Rey on her search for Luke at the end.

Changes

– Leia sensing the Starkiller’s attack on the republic
– R2 awakens when BB8 first finds him
– No lightsaber duel with Kylo, Rey, or Finn.
– Planets Daquar and Tokondana are now the same world
– Han and Chewie’s explosives bring down the shields (special credit to Last Impressions for this idea)

Intention:
To give Han a second chance, and hope for a reunion with Luke
Timeline
-First 47 minutes are straight up regular Force Awakens. Changes occur when the falcon escapes the hijackers

-Falcon arrives at Daquar, Finn meets Poe, all references to Rey being captured removed
-R2 awakens, the map to Luke is completed
-Leia and Han argue, Rey finds Luke’s lightsaber and has her vision, this triggers her awakening, Snoke informs Kylo of this, Snoke then learns the location of the Resistance base.
-The Resistance put together their strategy regarding Starkiller base.
-The First Order attacks Daquar, Finn is given the lightsaber
-Footage of Tokunda battle now represents the Daquar invasion
-Starkiller destroys Republic planets, Rey grieves with eia.
-Han, Finn, Rey and Chewie journey to Starkiller,
-Han and Chewie plant bombs, Han confronts Kylo, Kylo ignites his lightsaber off-camera, leaving Chewie no choice but to attack, he then sets off the explosives. The shields are brought down by the explosions.
-Resistance destroy Starkiller base
-Han says goodbye to Leia, tells Rey and Finn all about why Luke dissapeared
-Footage of the Falcon arriving at Tokodana used for the Falcon arriving at Luke’s island
-Ending the same as Force Awakens
